The Old House from Kvitevoll (The Sheriff’s House), Sogn Folkemuseum, Sogndal, Norway

This house was built around 1840 by joining two older log buildings. It’s a typical official’s house from this period, belonging to the “lensmann” Carl Bjørnholdt and his family. The lensmann (sheriff) was a prominent member of the community. Socially, he belonged to the upper classes, but could not afford to live the lavish life of a magistrate or curate. For appearance, the house was painted white on three sides, while the back was painted in cheaper red.
